Licensing requirements mandate that hospitals in Illinois have an infection prevention and control program (77 Ill. Adm. Code 250.1100). Healthcare associated infections are a growing problem in healthcare facilities across the nation. Infection prevention programs and staff are essential in reducing the number of infections acquired during a hospital stay, providing expertise in disease transmission and prevention.
