Nurse Staffing
In a hospital, nurses are the around the clock caregivers for patients. As such, they play a key role in ensuring the safety and quality of patient care. Researchers have linked several measures of nurse staffing to improved patient outcomes. The information below is obtained from data collected by Illinois hospitals and submitted to the Illinois Department of Public Health. See Report Card methodology. Some of the differences in reported staffing hours may be related to differences in the manner in which hospitals define the level or complexity of care in each nursing unit. For more information, read About Nurse Staffing.
Per the Illinois Hospital Report Card Act, patients, their families and the general public have a right to access the nurse staffing and training information in a hospital.

Infection Prevention Staffing
Licensing requirements mandate that hospitals in Illinois have an infection prevention and control program (77 Ill. Adm. Code 250.1100). Healthcare associated infections are a growing problem in healthcare facilities across the nation. Infection prevention programs and staff are essential in reducing the number of infections acquired during a hospital stay, providing expertise in disease transmission and prevention. These measures show the number of infection prevention and control staff for every 100 authorized hospital beds. The information below is obtained from hospitals and submitted to the Illinois Department of Public Health. See Report Card Methodology.

Lactation Consultant Staffing
In 2011 the Surgeon General issued a “Call to Action to Support Breastfeeding”. Breast feeding has been shown to be highly effective in protecting the health of infants and mothers (see breast feeding rates*). Hospitals can play an important role with new mothers at the time of birth by providing breastfeeding support and care. Specially trained lactation consultants are an important source of assistance. The lactation staffing measures below show the number of specially trained lactation consultants and the number of International Board Certified lactation consultants (IBCLC) for every 1000 live births at the hospital. These measures are shown for Illinois birthing hospitals. For further information about lactation consultant staffing read the CDC’s Breastfeeding Report Card.
You can find information about the percentage of babies breast fed at this hospital under the Maternal/Child tab.
